Abu Dhabi Airports and Etihad have announced the full transition of the new United States Customs and Border Protection (US CBP) facility at Abu Dhabi's Zayed International Airport.

Abu Dhabi Airports and Etihad have announced the full transition of the new United States Customs and Border Protection (US CBP) facility at Abu Dhabi's Zayed International Airport.

Ahead of the first anniversary of the opening of Zayed International Airport's Terminal A, all passengers on Etihad flights departing from Abu Dhabi bound for the United States will now be able to clear US entry procedures – immigration, customs, and agriculture inspections - prior to departure.

According to Abu Dhabi Airports, the facility underwent an extensive and thorough vetting process confirming all protocols, and readiness of systems, equipment and personnel. The facility features a “cutting-edge” biometric technology platform, along with corresponding agent display devices.

“On behalf of Abu Dhabi Airports, I would like to extend my sincere appreciation to our team and our partners at the U.S. Customs and Border Protection for their exemplary and collaborative teamwork,” said Elena Sorlini, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Abu Dhabi Airports. “This facility strengthens our ambition to be a leading travel hub, offering passengers a distinctive travel experience that is unparalleled in our region.”

“This milestone reinforces Abu Dhabi’s position as the most convenient gateway to the United States for travellers from across the Middle East, Indian subcontinent and Asia, and we are proud to offer our guests this unparalleled experience,” added Antonoaldo Neves, Chief Executive Officer, Etihad Airways. “With all Etihad flights now pre-clearing in Abu Dhabi, our guests can bypass arrival queues and, if connecting within the US, enjoy seamless transfers with minimal connection times through our partner airlines.”

Etihad currently operates flights to four destinations in the US – Chicago-O'Hare, Boston, New York-JFK, and Washington-Dulles. American Airlines and jetBlue are Etihad's two US-based airline partners.

Zayed International Airport's US CBP facility for pre-clearance was first opened in 2014, and is the only pre-clearance facility of its kind in the Middle East. US CBP pre-clearance facilities also available in select airports in the Caribbean, Canada, and Europe.
