Air India has announced its Airbus A350 aircraft will make its debut on its Delhi-London route.

The Gurugram, India-based carrier announced it will start operations of its widebody A350-900 aircraft between Delhi and London-Heathrow from September 1. The aircraft will be used on 14 of the 17 weekly flights, replacing the Boeing 777-300ER and 787-8 Dreamliner aircraft currently used on the route.

Featuring 336 seats in a three-class configuration – Business, Premium Economy, Economy – the airline will introduce Premium Economy seats and lie-flat beds in Business class on the Delhi-Heathrow route.

"The deployment of our flagship A350s and the B777s with upgraded cabin interiors to London Heathrow marks a significant milestone for Air India," Air India CEO and MD Campbell Wilson said.

Heathrow will be the second international destination where Air India will deploy its A350. Recently, Air India started operations of its A350 aircraft to Dubai. In addition to the two international routes, the airline has deployed the widebody jets on domestic flights between Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, and Chennai.

Part of an order for 250 Airbus jets placed in 2023, Air India has received 6 of the 40 A350-900s/1000s ordered from the European aircraft manufacturer.
