Air New Zealand has announced it will move to year-round flights to Bali, and increase flights to Tokyo.

Air New Zealand has announced it will move to year-round flights to Bali, and increase flights to Tokyo.

During a visit to Japan as part of a business delegation lead by New Zealand Prime Minister Christopher Luxon, Air New Zealand CEO Greg Foran stated the airline will add 300,000 seats on its flights to Tokyo between November to March 2025. The increase is made possible with the use of its Boeing 777 aircraft – with 342 seats – on more flights to the Japanese capital city.

The airline currently operates daily flights from Auckland to Tokyo Narita Airport.

"Japan is an incredibly important visitor market for the New Zealand tourism industry, so additional seats over our busiest season means more inbound travel from Japan,” said Foran. "Adding the 777 to more of our Tokyo services means that there are more seats available in premium cabins and that customers may experience our newly refreshed aircraft, which includes new seat covers and updated soft products like pillows and blankets."

The added capacity to Tokyo is part of Air New Zealand's planned increase of its services to key Asian markets. During the same time period, the airline will add 20,000 to Singapore and 7,500 Business Premier/Premium Economy seats to Taipei.

Year Round Flights to Bali

For the first time, Air New Zealand will operate year-round flights to Bali.

The Auckland-based carrier is expanding its services to Bali to cover the southern summer months between November and February 2025.  From April through October, Air New Zealand will offer the most seats to Bali offering five to seven weekly flights. Three flights weekly will be offered between November to mid-February, before lowering it to twice-weekly from mid-February through March.

"Bali has become an increasingly popular destination for Kiwi holidaymakers. With something to offer every type of traveller – from culture to incredible food, surf, relaxation, and adventure – expanding our Bali services made sense,” said Leanne Geraghty, Chief Customer and Sales Officer, Air New Zealand. "As the only airline offering a direct connection between Aotearoa and Bali, Kiwis heading off on a Bali break over the summer months no longer need to fly with a stopover. Holidaymakers can book a Bali Christmas or New Year holiday with direct flights to warm weather through the day and long balmy nights.”
