AirAsia Thailand will introduce the AirAsia group carriers' first ever connection to Kathmandu, Nepal.
The Thailand-based AirAsia carrier will launch the new route – between Bangkok Don Mueang Airport and Kathmandu's Tribhuvan International Airport – will start on October 2 with four weekly flights.
The new route will offer travelers a connection to Nepal and its cultural sites – including UNESCO World Heritage Sites – as well as base camps to the mountain peaks of the Himalayas including the Annapurna Base Camp and the Everest Base Camp.
Remarking on the new route announcement to Kathmandu, AirAsia Thailand CEO Santisuk Klongchaiya said: “AirAsia is always looking to expand its network to exciting destinations, and Nepal is one of the most popular not only among Thai travelers but also visitors from across the globe looking to experience the majestic views, culture, and the World Heritage architecture that Nepal has to offer. It is of course a top pick for adventure and mountaineering enthusiasts.”
With the addition of Kathmandu, AirAsia will operate 87 weekly flights on16 routes to South Asia. The airline group's destinations in the region includes Jaipur, Bengaluru, Lucknow, Kolkata, Chennai, Kochi, Gaya, Ahmedabad, Guwahati, Visakhapatnam, Tiruchirappalli, Hyderabad Dhaka, Colombo, and the Maldives.
“This is a region with tremendous growth potential that has only made us to work even harder to roll out more flight services to meet the demand for tourism, trade and business purposes. Thus latest route will definitely be of benefit to both regions, ” Santisuk added.
AirAsia Thailand will be the third airline to offer flights between Bangkok and Kathmandu, and the second from Don Mueang Airport. THAI Airways and Nepal Airlines operates flights from Suvarnabhumi Airport, while Thai Lion Air is currently the lone airline operating flights from Don Mueang Airport.
