To launch its new global gateway in Seattle, the recently merged Alaska Airlines and Hawaiian Airlines with new non-stop flights from their Pacific Northwest hub to Tokyo and Seoul next year.
As part of its plans to serve at least 12 global destinations from Seattle by 2030, the Alaska Air Group announced it will launch daily flights from Seattle to Tokyo Narita staring May 12, 2025. Following the Seattle-Narita route, the planned Seattle and Seoul Incheon service is scheduled to begin in October 2025. Details for the new route will be announced when ticket sales start.
The new route to Narita will be operated using Hawaiian Airlines' widebody Airbus A330-200, which will be re-positioned to Seattle from its Honolulu-Tokyo Narita route. According to the Alaska Air group, the Hawaii-Japan market has seen “weaker leisure travel demand in the wake of the pandemic.”
“Our new widebody service between Seattle and Tokyo Narita enables us to right-size our capacity between HawaiĘ»i and Japan, a market that has experienced a weaker leisure travel demand in the wake of the pandemic,” the airline group said in a statement.
While repositioning an aircraft from Honolulu, Alaska Air Group said it will increase flights from Honolulu to Tokyo Haneda from 12 to 14 weekly. The airline will operate 24 weekly flights between Hawaii and Japan, including its flights from Honolulu to both Osaka and Fukuoka.
From Seattle, the Alaska Air Group operates flights to 104 cities across North America.
According to the Alaska Air Group, both its group carriers are working to obtain a single operating certificate from the US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). Until the expected issuance of the certificate by October 2025, both airlines will operate separately. Following the combination, the airline group states it will keep the two brands.
