Avia Solutions Group (ASG) - the world's largest Aircraft, Crew, Maintenance, and Insurance (ACMI) provider – has opened a new Philippine-based subsidiary Avion Express Philippines.

Announced during a launch event held in Bonifacio Global City, Taguig, ASG stated Avion Express Philippines was formed to meet the Philippines' seasonal aircraft capacity needs.

ASG cited the surge in tourist revenue in the Philippines in 2024 compared to pre-pandemic levels, exceeding the estimated PHP 600.01 billion in 2019 by around 26.75%. Tourist arrivals in 2024 also surged by around 9.15% higher compared to 2023.

According to data the Philippines' Civil Aeronautics Board (CAB), air passenger volume in the Philippines saw a 21.2% increase during the first nine months of 2024 (January-September 2024) with 44.09 million traveling by air in the country (domestic/international) compared to the same period the year before. Air passenger volume for the full year of 2024 is expected to surpass the 53.78 million recorded in 2023.

While with the growing demand for air travel, ASG noted the global supply chain crisis has led to a backlog of over 17,000 new aircraft which has resulted in difficulties for airlines to meet the growing demand and maximize potential revenues.

“With the planned expansion of Manila Airport and tourism receipts surpassing pre-pandemic levels last year, there is a clear need for ACMI to address the capacity gaps and service challenges within the local aviation sector,” Gediminas Ziemelis, Chairman of Avia Solutions Group said. “This flexible model helps airlines increase capacity during high-demand seasons, improve profitability by 2-3%, and navigate market fluctuations. Avion Express Philippines will play an important role in providing airlines with seasonal and flexible capacity to meet the country’s booming aviation market.”

"The introduction of ACMI services in the Philippines marks an exciting chapter for the aviation industry," said Rene Banzon, CEO of Avion Express Philippines. "We believe that this service will empower airlines to optimize operations, explore new routes, and ultimately provide better travel experiences for passengers. We look forward to officially launching our operations this year and contributing to the industry's continued growth."

In preparation of its official launch, Avion Express Philippines stated it is working with the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) and the CAB on the final regulatory requirements for its Air Operator Certificate (AOC) and Certificate of Public Convenience and Necessity (CPCN).

With a fleet of 214 aircraft, Avion Express Philippines' parent company – Avia Solutions Group – is the world's largest ACMI provider. Along with aircraft leasing the group also provides a range of aviation services including MRO (Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul), pilot and crew training, ground handling, as well as a variety of associated services.

Among Avion Express' customers and partners worldwide include Aegean, AirArabia, airBaltic, Condor, easyJet, Eurowings, LOT Polish Airlines, Vietnam Airlines, Vietjet, WizzAir,
