COMAC has rebranded the ARJ-21 – China's homegrown developed regional jet – and announced the launch customer for the widebody C929.
During the opening day of the 15th China International Aerospace Expo (Zhuhai Airshow), the Chinese aircraft manufacturer stated the regional jet – first developed by state-owned ACAC Corporation – will now be named the C909.
According to COMAC, the unification of aircraft product names will shape the image of serialized products, and further enhance product recognition and brand influence.
In addition to the rebrand of the ARJ-21 to the C909, COMAC also announced it has signed a framework agreement with Air China for the Beijing-based carrier to become the launch customer of COMAC's widebody C929.
Considered China's challenge to the Boeing 777 and Airbus A350, the C929 is designed to seat 280-400 passengers on long-haul flights up to 12,000 kilometers.
