Cathay Pacific is expanding its network in mainland China with the addition of Urumqi to its network.

From April 28, the Hong Kong-based airline will operate four weekly flights (Sunday, Monday, Thursday, Saturday) between Hong Kong and Urumqi – the capital of China's Xianjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region. Cathay Pacific will use its Airbus A330-300 aircraft on the new route.

With the addition of Urumqi, the Cathay Group will operate a combined total – including flights operated by Cathay Pacific and budget subsidiary HK Express – of 290 flights to 20 cities in mainland China. This includes Beijing (Capital/Daxing), Shanghai (Pudong/Hongquiao), Chengdu, Chongqing, Fuzhou, Guangzhou, Haikou, Hangzhou, Nanjing, Ningbo, Qingdao, Sanya, Urumqi, Wenzhou, Wuhan, Xi’an, Xiamen and Zhengzhou.

“Urumqi is an exciting new addition to our network, directly connecting our home city with an important Belt and Road hub in Northwestern China,” said Lavinia Lau, Chief Customer and Commercial Officer, Cathay Group. “We are delighted to introduce Urumqi as the Cathay Group’s 11th new port announced so far this year, as we move one step closer to reaching 100 destinations globally in 2025.”

Along with Urumqi, this year Cathay Pacific will launch new flights to Hyderabad, Dallas, Rome, Munich, and Brussels. After recently launching flights to Sendai, HK Express will launch flights to Nha Trang, Komatsu, Ishigaki, and Miyako (Shimojishima).

Cathay Pacific will be the third airline to operate flights between Hong Kong and Urumqi. China Southern and Urumqi Airlines currently operates flights on the route.
