Cathay Pacific will be adding more flights to Cebu before year's end.

Cathay Pacific will be adding more flights to Cebu before year's end.

During a recent event in Cebu, Cathay Pacific announced it will increase its flights to the central Philippine city from October 28. Currently operating five weekly flights, the Hong Kong-based carrier will increase the total number of flights to eight weekly to/from Cebu.

In an interview with The Freeman, Cathay Pacific Country Manager for the Philippines Vishnu Rajendran said the airline's increase of its flights to Cebu follows the post-pandemic surge in leisure and business travel.

“We have seen an overall growth in the market, like OFW travel, business, leisure [tourism] which gives us confidence to resume the flight frequency from Cebu,” said Rajendran.

Rajendran noted that prior to the pandemic, Cathay Pacific operated 14 weekly flights between Hong Kong and Cebu.

Regarding the progress of the airline's recovery on the route, Rajendran said: “We are now on track to get back to 100 percent overall capacity by next year,”

With the additional flights to Cebu, Cathay Pacific will offer a total of 50 weekly flights between the Philippines and Hong Kong by year's end. The airline also operates six daily flights to/from the Philippine capital of Manila.
