The Mactan Cebu International Airport (MCIA) has launched a new transfer system service to reduce layover times in between connecting flights.
During a recent launch event, the new service was introduced as “Cebu Connect” by the operator of the MCIA – Aboitiz InfraCapital GMCAC (AGMCAC). Aimed at enhancing Cebu's airport as an ideal hub for domestic travelers and foreign tourists by reducing the connection time from 90 to 60 minutes for international and 60 to 35 minutes for domestic flights.
According to MCIA's CEO Athanasios Titonis, the new transfer system has started for domestic travel. International flight transfers will be implemented in the coming months. The airport stated the system will include updated X-ray scanners, multiple counters, and well-trained security and airport staff for the ease of transfers between MCIA Terminal 1 and Termnal 2.
“This is a testament to our ongoing efforts to improve airport services and enhance passenger satisfaction,” Titonis said. “This is part of MCIA’s commitment to meeting global standards in airport operations.”
With the new system, passengers with connecting flights will no longer need to claim their luggage. They can proceed to a designated gate to complete the necessary security clearances before boarding their next flight.
In 2023, the MCIA served over 10 million passengers – 7.5 million domestic and 2.5 million international.
