China Eastern has announced it has started operations of the fourth route for the C919.

The Shanghai-based carrier announced it operated the first flight of its COMAC C919 – China's locally made narrowbody passenger jet – on the fourth route between Shanghai and Guangzhou on June 14. Operating as MU5309, the C919 with the registration B-919A – with 162 passengers on board – departed Shanghai Hongquiao Airport in the morning and arrived at Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport before noon. The return flight – MU5316 – departed Guangzhou and arrived back at Shanghai in the afternoon.

Since China Eastern started operations of the C919 in May 2023, the airline – currently the only operator of the aircraft – has deployed the aircraft on a total of over 2,300 flights from Shanghai to three destinations – Beijing, Chengdu, and Xi'an. The airline also deployed the aircraft on a special charter flight from Hong Kong to Shanghai in June.

The airline currently has a fleet of six C919s, with more expected to be delivered this year.
