China Southern will launch the first scheduled non-stop flights between mainland China and Mexico in four years with a new route from Shenzhen and Mexico City.
Then Guangzhou, China based carrier stated it will launch twice-weekly flights from Shenzhen to Mexico City on April 17. The return leg will make a stop at Tijuana due to Mexico City's high altitude.
Covering 8778 miles (~14126km) with an estimated flight time of 16 hours, the route from Shenzhen to Mexico City will be the longest on China Southern's network. It will also become the eight-longest airline route in the world by distance.
The new route will be the first direct air link between China and Mexico since early 2020. Hainan Airlines previously operated flights from Beijing-Capital Airport to Tijuana until January 2020. Until December 2019, Aeromexico operated flights from Mexico City and Shanghai-Pudong.
China Southern's new route to Mexico comes amid strengthened trade ties between China and Mexico, with the new service offering a new link to the Americas for China.
