China extended visa exemption for citizens from 12 countries in Europe and Malaysia.

Previously set to expire on November 24, the current agreement for the inbound travel visa exemption for citizens of 12 countries - France, Germany, Italy, Netherlands, Spain, Malaysia, Switzerland, Ireland, Hungary, Austria, Belgium and Luxembourg – was extended to the end of 2025.

Under the agreement – first introduced at the end of November 2023 - citizens from the 12 listed countries can visit China for up to 15 days visa-free for business, sightseeing, transit, or other purposes. Citizens not meeting the mentioned requirements are required to apply for a Chinese visa prior to arrival.

Reported by China's Global Times and Xinhua New Agency, the move was first announced by China's President Xi Jinping during a recent meeting of the China-France Business Council in Paris held on May 7. A statement was then released by China's Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
