HK Express is expanding its services to the Japanese island of Okinawa with the launch of a new route to Ishigaki.
The Cathay Group budget carrier announced its new Hong Kong-Ishigaki route will start on April 3 with daily flights.
Located 400km southwest of the island of Okinawa, the island of Ishigaki's attractions include diving and its beaches. Part of Okinawa Prefecture, Ishigaki is the second major international gateway to Okinawa – the other being Naha on the island of Okinawa. The island's main airport – New Ishigaki Airport (ISG) – serves domestic and international routes including flights to Tokyo Haneda, Osaka Kansai, Fukuoka, Naha, and Seoul Incheon. HK Express will offer the first flights to the island from Hong Kong.
Ishigaki will be the airline's 11th destination in Japan, where it currently operates flights to Fukuoka, Osaka, Nagoya, Tokyo (Narita and Haneda), Hiroshima, Takamatsu, Kagoshima, Sendai, and Okinawa.
