HK Express has updated its fare categories, which will now see the carrier charge passengers bringing a carry-on suitcase onboard.
The Hong Kong-based budget carrier and subsidiary of Cathay Pacific announced the expansion of its fare categories from two to four tiers – ranging from the lowest “Ultra Lite” to “Max” - each with updated carry-on/check-in baggage allowances.
In its announcement, HK Express said: “We understand that each journey is different and customers have varying needs. Our variety of flexible fare options allows customers who prefer travelling light to enjoy more affordable fares, and, if needed, purchase extra allowances for checked baggage and select add-on services. ”
Effective May 7 onwards, passengers booking flights with the lowest tier - “Ultra Lite” - will be allowed one (1) piece of a “small personal item” with a maximum weight of 7kg. Those wishing to bring a personal item plus a cabin luggage – maximum weight of 7kg total – can purchase their tickets with the “Lite” fare.

Except for the Max fare tier, all other customers will be required to pay should they want a preferred seat selection.
Those who wish to check-in luggage can purchase the “Essential” tier for one piece of checked baggage no more than 20kg, while the “Max” tier offers 32kg.
Passengers who booked their tickets on or before May 7 will still be able to travel under the previous policy with one personal item and one cabin baggage no more than 7kg.
