Vietnam Airlines recently shifted its domestic flight operations at Ho Chi Minh City's Tan Son Nhat International Airport to the airport's new Terminal 3. Another airline – budget airline Vietjet – is expected to follow next month (May).

Vietnam Airlines recently shifted its domestic flight operations at Ho Chi Minh City's Tan Son Nhat International Airport to the airport's new Terminal 3. Budget airline Vietjet – is expected to follow next month (May).
According to Vietnam Airlines, the first domestic flight to operate from Terminal 3 was VN1286 between Ho Chi Minh City to Van Don (Quang Ninh) on April 17. Following the first flight, all the airline's flights on the Ho Chi Minh City-Hanoi route were shifted to Terminal 3 on April 19. All remaining domestic flights will then be shifted to Terminal 3 on April 28 except services to Con Dao, Rach Gia, and Ca Mau.
Services to the three cities along with flights operated by other Vietnam Airlines' Group carriers Pacific Airlines and VASCO will continue to depart from Terminal 1.
Full operations at Terminal 3 are expected by May.
Currently in a trial operation stage with the select Vietnam Airlines flights, another airline - Vietjet has been reported it will shift its domestic flights to Terminal 3 on May 5. The budget airline has advised their flights at Tan Son Nhat Airport are currently operating at Terminal 1.
Terminal 3 was built to boost the capacity of Ho Chi Minh City's main airport – the busiest in Vietnam. In 2024, Tan Son Nhat Airport served nearly 40 million passengers (39.8 million) – well above its designed capacity for 30 million annually. With a capacity to handle 20 million passengers per year, the new terminal will increase Tan Son Nhat Airport's total annual passenger capacity to 50 million.

The 112,500 square meter passenger terminal building features multi-story parking, elevated road system, and a commercial office section. The terminal has 27 boarding gates – 13 with jet bridges and 14 remote gates.
Passengers at Terminal 3 will be able to check-in for their flights at 90 traditional counters, while the terminal also features 20 self-service bag drop stations and 42 self-check-in kiosks. As part of a pilot program, various touchpoints including at security and the boarding gate features technology incorporating biometrics including facial recognition on the VNeID app to help.
Vietnam Airlines has advised travelers who need to transfer between the three terminals may take around 20 minutes. An airport shuttle bus operates between the terminals every 20 minutes.
