A new incentive program has been launched to boost flights and routes to Hong Kong.

A new incentive program has been launched to boost flights and routes to Hong Kong.

The operator of Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA) – Airport Authority of Hong Kong (AAHK) – announced the new Airport Network Development Programme will include two schemes – the New Route Scheme and the Strategic Development Scheme.

Under the New Route Scheme, all passenger and cargo airlines that launch new destinations to/from HKIA with a defined continuity will be eligible to receive financial incentives for two years. Open between June 2024 to December 2027, both airlines currently operating at HKIA and new airlines are eligible to receive the incentives.

The second scheme – the Strategic Development Scheme – will grant financial incentives for three years for passenger and cargo airlines that launch new routes and/or adds flights to AAHK's targeted regions or countries.

The same offer will be applied to any incremental cargo flights provided the all the cargo on board are accept at the HKIA Donnguan Logistics park (HKIALP).

“Air network connectivity is pivotal to an international aviation hub like HKIA. While we are confident in HKIA’s development in the long term, the new Programme serves to encourage home-based and foreign airlines to bring forward their launch of new routes and/or increase in frequency of flights connecting to HKIA,” said Vivian Cheung, Acting Chief Executive Officer, AAHK.

Cheung added since the launch of the program last month, the AAHK has received a positive response from airlines.

“AAHK will continue to engage with existing local and foreign airlines at HKIA and is outreaching to other airlines about the Programme,” Cheung added.

The Airport Network Development Programme will continue HKIA's efforts to boost flight services to/from Hong Kong's air hub, following the end of the Early Bird Guaranteed Landing Charge Rebate Scheme in March.
