The operator of South Korea's Incheon Airport near Seoul will provide consulting services to Vietnam's Long Thanh International Airport project.

On August 8, the Incheon International Airport Corporation (IIAC) announced it has been selected as a prioritised contractor on consulting services for operation of the Long Thanh Airport project. The corporation has formed a joint venture with Vietnam-based PMI which is carrying out the basic design of the airport's passenger terminal building.

Pending the signing of the contract, IIAC will provide consulting services within a 24 month period from the signing date to support the launch of Long Thanh airport including the drafting airport operation concepts, developing commercial strategies, and delivering consultations on trial operation.

Located 40 kilometers east of Ho Chi Minh City in the province of Dong Nai, the Long Thanh International Airport is expected to help reduce air traffic congestion at Ho Chi Minh City's Tan Son Nhat International Airport. Designed to be built in phases between 2026 to 2050, once fully completed the airport will have a capacity to serve 100 million passengers and 5 million tonnes of cargo. The project cost is estimated to be around VND 333.7 billion (~USD $13.3 billion/KRW 18.15 billion).

According to the Airports Corporation of Vietnam (ACV), the first flight at Long Thanh Airport is expected to take place in September 2026.

The Long Thanh Airport is expected to be part of IIAC's overseas airport consulting business with goals to operate more than 10 airports outside of South Korea by 2040. The Vietnam airport project will be the company's third project in Southeast Asia after Indonesia's Batam Airport and the Philippines' Manila Airport.
