Indonesia AirAsia will launch new flights to Hong Kong from Bali and Jakarta.

The Indonesia-based AirAsia group carrier announced the first of the two new routes to Hong Kong – from Denpasar (Bali) – will start with daily flights from October 1. Daily flights from Jakarta to Hong Kong will then start on October 8.

"With the opening of the Bali-Hong Kong and Jakarta-Hong Kong routes, Indonesia AirAsia is further strengthening its position as an airline with wide connectivity, which not only covers countries in ASEAN and Australia but also mainland China," said Indonesia AirAsia CEO Veranita Yosephine Sinaga.

"With these new routes, Indonesia AirAsia hopes to support the growth of tourism and the economy between countries," Veranita added.

According to Statistics Indonesia (BPS), Indonesia has welcomed around 13,673 visitors from Hong Kong during the first six months of 2024 (January-June) – 98.5% of the total visits in 2023.

The Hong Kong Tourism Board (HKTB) reported an increase in visitor arrivals to Hong Kong from Indonesia from 7,480 in 2022 to 252,432 in 2023.

Indonesia AirAsia will be the lone budget carrier to offer flights between Jakarta and Hong Kong, which is currently served by Cathay Pacific and Garuda Indonesia. Cathay Pacific and Hong Kong Airlines currently operates flights from Hong Kong to Denpasar.
