Following approvals obtained from Japan's Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport, and Tourism (MOLITT) for Anti-Trust Immunity (ATI), both the Tokyo-based oneworld and Jakarta-based SkyTeam carriers have signed a Joint Business Agreement which would allow both airlines to cooperate commercially on flights between Japan and Indonesia. The agreement will also cover connecting domestic flights within both countries.
According to JAL, the joint business will start during the second quarter of 2025.
Between Japan and Indonesia, the services covered include JAL-operated flights between Tokyo-Narita and Jakarta, along with Garuda Indonesia-operated flights between Jakarta and Tokyo-Haneda and Narita and Denpasar (Bali).
The domestic routes covered in the agreement includes Garuda Indonesia-operated flights from Jakarta to Yogyakarta, Surabaya, and Denpasar. Within Japan, domestic destinations include Osaka (Itami), Nagoya, Sapporo (New Chitose), and Fukuoka.
