Ahead of the launch of its oneworld and joint business partner carrier American Airlines' new route between New York-JFK and Tokyo-Haneda, Japan Airlines (JAL) announced the new trans-Pacific service will be available as a codeshare flight.

The Tokyo-based carrier announced it will add its JL flight code on the new daily American-operated service between JFK and Haneda (AA167/AA168) – scheduled to start on June 28.

First announced by American in late February, the new JFK-Haneda service will be the lone flight between the two airports operated by a US-based carrier.

Combined, JAL and American will offer three flights between JFK and Haneda. JAL currently operates two daily flights on the route.

“JAL will continue its collaboration with American Airlines to improve convenience for customers traveling between Japan and the United States, and will continue to take on new challenges to provide more options for our customers,” JAL said in a statement.

The joint business partnership between American and JAL will offer customers up to 17 daily flights between the continental United States and Japan this summer – including 10 daily flights to/from Haneda.
