Japan Airlines' (JAL) regional carrier J-AIR has announced it has become the first to offer inflight internet services on regional aircraft (less than 100 seats).
The Osaka-based J-AIR reported it will complete the installation of antennas for internet access aboard its fleet of 14 Embraer 190 (E190) aircraft by July 11. Passengers aboard the aircraft will be able to use internet services including accessing web pages, email, social media and messaging apps, and stream video content.
According to J-AIR, the inflight internet services will be available on its flights operated with its E190 aircraft from July 12 between Tokyo (Haneda) and Misawa, Akita, Yamagata, Yamagata, Yamaguchi, Ube, Miyazaki, Osaka (Itami), and Kagoshima.
“JAL Group plans to further enhance the in-flight Wi-Fi service by increasing the speed of connectivity on domestic flights and offering free access on international flights in the near future,” the airline group said in a statement.
Inflight internet access aboard J-AIR's E190s is part of the airline's partnership with Virginia,US-based Intelsat.
