The Tokyo-based carrier announced inflight Wi-Fi will be available for passengers onboard its international flights departing from Japan starting October 1. Passengers in First and Business Class will have unlimited access, while Premium Economy and Economy Passengers will have one free hour of Wi-Fi usage.
The service is currently available for a fee except for First Class passengers.
Within JAL's domestic flight operations, the current free Wi-Fi service will be expanded to include video streaming services in addition to the current web browsing and email/text apps across JAL and JTA operated flights, along with J-AIR flights using Embraer 190 (E90) aircraft.
The Wi-Fi service will be available for JTA-operated flights from late December.
With the expansion of the inflight Wi-Fi services, passengers will be able to view the news site TBS NEWS DIG Powered by JNN,' which includes news from 28 JNN stations, in collaboration with TBS and JNN NEWS DIG starting in the second half of 2024.
The JAL Group also announced as it plans to introduce Boeing 737-8 (MAX 8) aircraft in fiscal 2026, the new aircraft will be equipped with the latest inflight Wi-Fi systems.
