In an advisory, the Tokyo-based airline reported: “Since 7:24 AM (JST) on December 26, 2024, there was a disruption in the network equipment connecting internal and external systems, resulting in malfunctions in systems communicating with external systems.”
JAL stated it has identified the cause and the impact range of the system failure, and the system has been received.
“This failure is caused by receiving a large amount of data from an external source. and there has been no customer data leakage or virus damage,” the airline said.
As a result of the cyberattack, JAL reported that as of 2000H JST on December 26, a total of 71 flights were delayed by more than 30 minutes – 60 domestic and 11 international. Four flights were cancelled on December 26, and one on December 27. Domestic standby service at the airport departing on December 26, 2024 was suspended.
