Jetstar will launch a new direct route from Brisbane to Bangkok before year's end.
From December 13, the Australian budget carrier will launch its newly announced service from Brisbane to Bangkok-Suvarnabhumi. Using Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft, the airline will operate three weekly flights on the route. The outbound flights will depart every Sunday, Wednesday, and Friday while the return flights from Bangkok will depart the following day.
The new route will be Jetstar's 20th from Brisbane, and the only direct air link to the Thai capital and the capital of the Australian state of Queensland.
“This is our 20thBrisbane route in what is Jetstar’s 20th year of flying and we’re focused on delivering for our customers with more new routes and new aircraft on the way,” said Steph Tully, Jetstar Group CEO.
In a statement, the Queensland Government Minister for Tourism Michael Healy cited the economic benefits of the new route.
“Compared to pre COVID figures, we have recently seen record numbers of visitors from Thailand to Queensland, so it was vital for us to open up a direct route to Bangkok,” Healy said.
Healy added: “Air freight from Brisbane to Thailand hit a record $46.5 million last year so the return flights will be terrific for our meat, fish, fruit, and vegetable exporters.”
Brisbane Airport CEO Gert-Jan de Graaf added the new route has been a higly requested from travelers saying: “This route has been the most frequently requested in comments on Brisbane Airport’s social media accounts over the past two years.”
Graaf further stated: “A direct flight makes it easier for families and friends to connect and provides great opportunities for Queensland exporters with up to 15 tonnes of freight capacity on every service.”
The new Brisbane-Bangkok route will be the third route offered by Jetstar to the Thai capital from Australia. Currently operating flights from Melbourne, the airline will launch a new service from Perth to Bangkok starting September 6.
