The Shanghai, China-based airline will launch direct flights from Shanghai Pudong Airport to Sydney on December 16. Juneyao Airlines will operate four weekly flights on the route, with the first return flight departing Sydney the following day (December 17).
Then on December 19, the airline will launch a separate thrice-weekly service from Pudong Airport to Melbourne.
According to Sydney Airport and Melbourne Airports, Juneyao Air will increase the flights on both routes to a daily service during January and February 2025. The airline will use its Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner aircraft with 324 seats – 29 Business and 295 Economy – on its two new routes to Australia.
Juneyao Air will be the ninth Chinese airline to offer flights to Sydney including Air China, Beijing Capital Airlines, China Eastern, China Southern, Hainan Airlines, Sichuan Airlines, Tianjin Airlines, and Xiamen Air. With the new route, Sydney Airport states it will have the most connections to mainland China with a combined 53,000 weekly seats on the market.

Meanwhile, the new service by Juneyao Air to Melbourne will bring Melbourne Airport's seat capacity on flights to China above pre-pandemic levels.
