The delivery of Malaysia Airlines' first Airbus A330neo aircraft has been delayed.
Citing findings by Airbus during the flight line stage, parent company Malaysia Aviation Group (MAG) said the delivery of the Malaysian flag carrier's first A330neo – originally scheduled in September – will now take place by late November.
As a result of the delay, the airline has changed the plans for the inaugural flight for the new aircraft to Melbourne on November 25. The airline will revert to operating its A330-300 aircraft on flights previously scheduled to use the A330neo.
“MAG is working closely with Airbus and its lessor, Avolon, to secure a new delivery timeline and expedite the aircraft’s entry into service. The airline expects to receive five (5) A330neo by Q1 2025,” the MAG said in a statement.
For the deliveries of Boeing 737-8 (MAX 8) aircraft, MAG said it is in communication with Boeing and lessor AirLease Corp, while closely monitoring the situation.
“We are deeply disappointed by the aircraft delivery delays by Airbus, compounded by the ongoing setbacks of our Boeing 737-8 deliveries,” said Datuk Captain Izham Ismail, Group Managing Director, MAG. “These delays are significantly disrupting our fleet modernisation plans and growth requirements. As we take decisive steps toward a stronger 2025, having the necessary assets in place is crucial to meet our growth targets, optimise our network and continue delivering enhanced services to our customers.”
“MAG remains committed to its fleet modernisation plans and providing exceptional customer service. The Group Is working diligently with its aircraft manufacturers and lessors to minimise disruptions while ensuring that the highest safety standards continue to be met,” the airline group further added.
