On December 19, the Malayian flag carrier's fist A330neo – registration 9M-MNG – completed its first flight operating as MH149 on a 7.5 hour flight between Kuala Lumpur and Melbourne. The flight departed Kuala Lumpur just before 2230H in the evening and arrived at around 0900H the following morning in Melbourne (both local times).
Ahead of the inaugural flight, Malaysia Airlines' parent company Malaysia Aviation Group (MAG) hosted a launch ceremony at its engineering division attended by officials from MAG and the Malaysian government, including Malaysian Transport Minister YB Loke Siwe Fook.
During the launch ceremony, MAG Group Managing Director Datuk Captain Izham Ismail said: “The debut of our first A330neo marks a transformative moment for MAG as we modernise our fleet and set a new era of air travel where innovation, comfort, and sustainability come together seamlessly. This commitment underscores our dedication to placing our passengers at the heart of everything we do, delivering an exceptional and unforgettable journey that embodies the warmth and care of Malaysian Hospitality.”
MAG expects to take delivery of a total of 20 A330neos to be delivered by 2028, which will join its current fleet of 107 aircraft across its subsidiaries – including Malaysia Airlines, Firefly, MASwings, and MASkargo. The additional A330neo is part of of the group's plan to expand its fleet to 62 narowbody and 52 widebody jets by 2033.

Malaysia Airlines' new A330neo features 297 seats in a two-class configuration – 28 Business and 269 Economy. Inflight connectivity and real-time flight tracking will be provided to all passengers.

The aircraft's 28 seats in Business Class are configured in a 1-2-1 per row featuring Collins Aerospace Elevation suites with direct access to the aisle, and a lie-flat bed with a privacy door. Each suite has 17.3-inch 4K screens to enjoy inflight entertainment options and charging ports.
In Economy, each seat is provided a 13.3inch 4K screen, coat hooks, cup holder, and “ample stowage.”
