Ahead of the peak summer season, Philippine Airlines will increase flights and capacity on its domestic network from its Cebu hub.

The Manila, Philippines-based airline reported it will increase domestic flight frequencies by 10% from Cebu starting in April, operating 287 weekly return flights from the central Philippine hub to 18 destinations in Luzon, the Visayas, and Mindanao. In addition, select routes will see the use of larger aircraft such as the 199-seat Airbus A321 instead of the 86-seat De Havilland Dash 8-400 turboprop aircraft.

Combined, the weekly seat capacity to/from Cebu will increase by 17% (39,000 seats). Most of the domestic flights from the city are operated by PAL Express.

Among the domestic destinations that will see service increases from Cebu include Caticlan – the gateway to the resort island of Boracay – from 14 to 21 weekly, Siargao (18 to 26 weekly), Puerto Princesa (7 to 14 weekly), Tacloban (14 weekly), Davao (29 weekly), Coron (14 to 17 weekly).

“These additional flights and greater seat capacity reflect our flag carrier’s commitment to increase connectivity, to boost the economy, and help drive tourism across our inter-island network from Cebu,” said Rabbi Vincent Ang, President, PAL Express in a statement on Thursday.

Philippine Airlines operates flights to 23 destinations - 18 domestic and 5 international – from Cebu. The international network from the city includes Bangkok Suvarnabhumi, Ho Chi Minh City, Osaka Kansai, Seoul Incheon, and Tokyo Narita.
