Qantas has been awarded flight rights for a third daily service to/from Tokyo Haneda Airport.

On September 27, Australia's International Air Services Commision (IASC) awarded Qantas the extra daily flight slot allocation to Haneda – previously vacated by Virgin Australia – effective February 2025.

According to reports from outlets such as Australian Aviation,  Qantas intends to offer flights between Haneda and three Australian east coast cities from March 30, 2025 – Sydney, Melbourne, and Brisbane.

Qantas currently operates two daily flights between Sydney and Haneda, along with its flights from Melbourne and Brisbane to Narita. Qantas intends to shift the flights from Brisbane and Melbourne to Haneda, while shifting one of the daily Sydney-Haneda flights to Narita.

The additional daily flight slots were previously vacated by Virgin Australia as it announced it will end its flights between Cairns and Haneda on February 24, 2024. Qantas filed an application seeking the flight slots from the IASC on September 18, which was approved on the 27th.
