Following the announcement it would add the Pacific island nation of Palau to its network, Qantas has revealed its new Brisbane-Palau route will be launched on December 7.
The Australian airline stated new service – called the “Palau Paradise Express” - will operate weekly using Boeing 737 aircraft. With an average flight time of 6 hours, the flights will operate as QF165 (outbound – Brisbane to Palau) and QF166 (return – Palau-Brisbane).
Qantas' new Brisbane-Palau route will be operated as part of a contract awarded to Qantas by the Federal Government of Australia to help maintain strong trade, tourism, and people-to-people links between Australia and Palau.
Comprised of over 300 islands, Palau – located in the Western Pacific – is known for its natural attractions including the UNESCO World Heritage listed Rock Islands. The islands are also a popular diving destination.
According to Qantas CEO International Cam Wallace, the new route generated a rise in interest following the initial announcement in October.
“When we first announced the ‘Palau Paradise Express’ in October, we saw an immediate surge in website traffic for searches to the destination, which shows the huge interest from travellers for new, more undiscovered destinations,” Wallace said.
Kadoi Ruluked, Director, Palau Visitors Authority added: “This connection will make it even easier for Australians to explore Palau’s pristine waters, world-famous dive sites, lush tropical jungles, war history and authentic cultures. The ‘Palau Paradise Express’ will not only boost tourism but also strengthen trade, cultural exchanges and economic ties between Palau and Australia.”
The new route will add to the international network to/from Palau, which includes services to Singapore (Alii Palau Airlines/Druk Air), Hong Kong (Cambodia Angkor Air), Taipei (China Airlines), and Guam/Manila (United Airlines).
