Qatar Airways has announced it will become the first airline from MENA (Middle East and Northern Africa) to introduce Starlink's Wi-Fi connectivity onboard its flights later this year.

During the Aircraft Interior Expo at Hamburg, Germany, the Doha-based carrier announced Starlink's high-speed, low-latency Wi-Fi will be introduced on three of its Boeing 777-300 by the last quarter of this year. Part of its rollout strategy, the airline will continue to extend the SpaceX-powered technology across its entire modern fleet within the next two years.

According to Qatar Airways, passengers will be able to connect onto the Wi-Fi with speeds of up to 500 megabit per second per plane. With a “one-click-access,” passsengers will be able to enjoy internet-based services such as content streaming, online gaming, and enriched web-browsing.

Qatar Airways Group Chief Executive Officer Badr Mohammed Al-Meer, said: “This exciting collaboration with Starlink is a testament to our customer-first mindset and commitment to elevating our passengers’ experience to unprecedented heights, as we continue furthering our innovative offerings to meet and exceed passengers’ expectations throughout their journey with Qatar Airways.”

Starlink Engineering Vice President at SpaceX, Mike Nicolls, added: “High-speed, low-latency internet is the future of aviation connectivity, and we’re excited to work with Qatar Airways to start flying Starlink on their fleet by the end of this year. Soon, all Qatar Airways passengers will be able to enjoy all the benefits of the world’s best in-flight connectivity from the comfort of their seats.”

Qatar Airways is the largest airline partner of Starlink to date. Other airlines that have announced partnership with Starlink include Hawaiian Airlines, airBaltic, Air New Zealand, and ZIPAIR Tokyo.
