Qatar Airways will resume flights to Canberra – the capital of Australia – next year.
From December 2025, the national airline of Qatar will operate daily flights to Canberra via Melbourne. Boeing 777 aircraft featuring the airline's Q-suite Business Class product will be used on the route.
The addition of Canberra will raise Qatar Airways' destinations in Australia to six. Previously served before the pandemic, Canberra will be an addition to the airline's services to the country where it currently operates flights to Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide, and Perth.
“We are delighted to be able to serve Canberra once again,” said Qatar Airways Group Chief Executive Officer Engr. Badr Mohamed Al-Meer. “The nation’s capital, the political heart of Australia, rightly expects to be served by a range of international airlines, and I am proud that we are able to play our part in that. Whether travelling for business, government services or leisure, our commitment to Australia, and to Canberra, is one that we know will bring much needed healthy competition to the market and greater choice for passengers.”
Canberra Airport CEO Stephen Byron added: “The return of Qatar Airways marks an exciting and pivotal moment for Canberra and our surrounding regions. This service not only provides over a million residents access to a global network spanning more than 170 destinations but also invites the world to rediscover Canberra’s unique cultural, educational, and tourism offerings.”
The announcement of the resumption of Doha-Melbourne-Canberra service follows the start of sales by Qatar Airways' partner Virgin Australia of international flight bookings on Qatar Airways-operated flights from four cities – Sydney, Brisbane, Perth, and Melbourne. The partnership between the two carriers is pending final regulatory approval.
