Construction work has begun for Terminal 3 at Shanghai Pudong International Airport.
Marking a significant milestone of the airport's Phase-4 expansion project started in 2022, the new terminal building – located south of the existing Terminal 1, Terminal 2, and the satellite terminal – will have a designed capacity to handle 50 million passengers per year. According to the Shanghai Airport (Group) Co Ltd, Terminal 3 is expected to be completed in 2028.
Terminal 3 will feature twin terminal buildings with 90 contact stands, with one for international flights along with flights to Hong Kong, Macau, and Taiwan, and the other for domestic flights. Designed to reduce walking distances to boarding gates, the terminal will feature intelligent technology and green concepts.
Upon completion, Pudong Airport will have three passenger terminals, the satellite terminal, and four runways. The combined area of the terminal buildings will exceed 1.7 million square meters, designed to serve 130 million passengers annually by 2030.
