THAI Airways International (THAI) has signed a lease agreement for eight (8) Airbus A321neo aircraft.
Announced on February 5, 2025, the Thai flag carrier signed the lease agreement with Dublin-based SMBC Aviation Capital. Direct from Airbus' orderbook, the aircraft will be delivered to THAI in 2026 and 2027 to support the airline's growth plans for its regional network.
In a statement, Conor Stafford, Head of Airline Marketing, SMBC Aviation Capital said: “The Airbus A321neo aircraft will not only boost Thai Airways operational efficiency, it will enhance the overall customer experience with more comfort and advanced features while also promoting a more sustainable aviation industry. We are delighted to support Thai Airways in the growth and modernisation of their fleet and we look forward to many years of working together.”
The eight leased A321neos will add to THAI's narrowbody aircraft fleet. Among its fleet of 79 aircraft, THAI operates 20 A320s. THAI plans to introduce the narrowbody Airbus aircraft during the fourth quarter of 2025.
THAI currently has a lease agreement with AerCAp for 10 more A321neo aircraft. In addition, THAI also has orders for 45 Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner aircraft.
