Taipei's airports to close airspace for annual military drills

Taipei's two airports – Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport and Taipei International Airport (Songshan) will be closed during one day each during an annual military exercise conducted by Taiwan.


As part of Taiwan's Han Kuang military exercises, Taiwan's Maritime and Port Bureau issued safety notices stating the airspace closures at the two Taipei hubs during the drills. On July 23, the airspace around Songshan Airport will be closed from 2200H to 2300H. Then on July 25, the airspace around Taoyuan International Airport will be closed from 1000H to 1100H.


The drills will involve the use of helicopters flying below an altitude of 1,500 feet (457 meters). Other details have not been disclosed.


According to reports from the Taipei Times and Taiwan's CNA, the Taiwanese military conducted anti-aircraft landing drills at Taoyuan Airport for the first time last year.
