Turkish Airlines will expand its presence in Australia with the addition of Sydney to its network.

Announced by Sydney Airport, the national carrier of Turkey will launch a new four-times weekly service between Istanbul and Sydney - via Kuala Lumpur – from December 4. The first return flight will depart the following day. Airbus A350-900 aircraft with 329 seats – 32 Business and 297 Economy – will be used on the route.

The Sydney Airport added the service will eventually go non-stop service to/from Istanbul – the first between Australia and Istanbul – which will offer a new connection between Australia and Europe. The route will enhance Sydney Airports connections to Europe where it serves a 38% share of flights between the two continents.

Sydney will be Turkish Airlines' second destination in Australia. In March 2024, the airline launched services to Melbourne via Singapore.

“We are proud that Turkish Airlines chose Sydney and NSW for their first non-stop service which is a strong endorsement of everything our city and state has to offer. In the meantime, passengers will get to experience Turkish Airlines’ award-winning service from Sydney to Istanbul via Kuala Lumpur in December 2024,” said Scott Charlton, CEO, Sydney Airport.

Charlton noted the route will serve a strong demand for travel to Turkey and Turkish-born Australians living in New South Wales.

“With more than 15,000 Turkish-born Australians in New South Wales and Turkey consistently rated as one of the top destinations for Australian travelers, we’re confident this service will be strongly supported,” he added.

Turkish Airlines Chairman of the Board and the Executive Committee, Prof. Dr. Ahmet Bolat said: “Today marks a significant milestone for Turkish Airlines as we proudly commence our journey into Sydney Airport. This new route not only enhances our global network but also reaffirms our commitment to connecting passengers with new opportunities and experiences.”
