Vietjet is partnering with the government of Laos to boost air transport connectivity between Vietnam and Laos, and promote aviation-related projects in Vietnam's neighboring country.

During a recent announcement ceremony in Vientiane, Laos, Vietjet announced it reached an agreement with the Ministry of Public Works and Transport of Laos with Vietjet committing to expand air connectivity in Laos.

“Vietjet's commitment to expanding air connectivity in Laos will bring affordable flight options and quality air services to Laotian and international tourists visiting the country. These initiatives are set to drive economic and social development, enhance trade, tourism connectivity, and cultural exchange among Laos and the regional neighbors,” the airline said in statement.

In collaboration with the Department of Civil Aviation of Laos, Vietjet will work to implement aviation-related projects including the establishment of its own Maintenance Repair Overaul (MRO) facilities in the country. Vietjet Aviation Academy will oversee training of new aviation workers following international aviation standards. The  Department of Civil Aviation of Laos will provide administrative, legal, and facility support, and coordination with other agencies to facilitate the projects’ execution.

The agreement will boost Vietjet's presence in Laos where it launched its first route to the country – connecting Ho Chi Minh City and Vientiane – earlier this year. During the previous year (2023), the airline launched a regional aircraft maintenance center in the country in cooperation with Lao Airlines.

Vietnam is one of Lao's largest investors and trading partners with 255 active investment project worth around USD $5.5 billion. The new agreement with Vietjet will boost the relationship between the two countries, which signed a Memorandum of Understanding on Strategic Cooperation in Transport for the period 2016 – 2025.
