Vietjet recently became the third non-Chinese airline operator of the COMAC C909 (formerly the ARJ-21).

On April 19, the Vietnam-based budget airline launched the first flights using the China-made regional jet to Con Dao off the southern coast of Vietnam from both Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City.

Acquired through wet-lease from Chengdu Airlines, Vietjet now operates two C909s – registered as B-652G and B-656E – which were delivered in April.

Vietjet is the third airline in Southeast Asia to operate the C909 – joining Indonesia-based TransNusa and Lao Airlines.

According to COMAC, the three Southeast Asia-based airlines operate the C909 on 15 routes. The aircraft has carried over 250,000 passengers in the region.
